Hear Me - a poem
cuando las estrellas tocan el cielo
yo quisiera estar ahi contigo,
en la oscuridad, en la paz,
en todo lo que me necesitas,
cuando el sol toca las nubes, ahí estaré,
a lado tuyo, mano a mano,
sin fallarte
por escucharte, daría todo de mi parte
pero cuando ya me canse
quisiera verte dar un avance
si quisieras seguir,
podríamos juntos, adelante
pero no separes los planetas y la luna
por que estar sin una
sería abandonarte
translation:
when the stars touch the sky
I’d like to be by your side
in the darkness, in the peace,
everywhere you need me
when the sun touches the clouds, I’ll be there
next to you, hand in hand,
without fail
to hear you, I’d give everything of me,
but when I finally get tired
I’d like to see you try
if you’d want to continue,
we could, go ahead
but don’t separate the planets and the moon
because being without one
would be abandoning you
I think that unfortunately this is the first poem I’ve ever written in Spanish, which is a shame because I should’ve been doing it sooner. It’s a kind of testament to how I’m finding different avenues to explore my heritage and honor my culture. That being said, I don’t think the English translation captures the poem entirely well... I wish authentic translation was easier and I admire authors who trust others with such a daunting and delicate task. On another note, I feel like writing poetry about the cosmos is something everyone does at least once, but if you speak another language, I’d say try it again in that language instead :). As always thanks for reading and I hope you found something useful <3
p.s I can’t believe that moon picture was just sitting in my camera roll abandoned and unknown
- love you, michelle
i’m in love with this— my spanish is not the greatest but it was so cool to read poetry by my friends in a different language
you should write more poems in spanish, i really enjoyed this one 🫶
